The Nippon Professional Baseball League is the highest level of Baseball in Japan and is quick becoming renown for its high level of Baseball that has seen many of its star players move on to the United States to play Major League Baseball.

The NPB consists of two leagues, the Central League and the Pacific League, both of which are live here at www.watchlivebaseball.com as well as the two minor leagues the Eastern League and the Western League. The NPB season starts in March/April and runs through to October with All Star games being played in July.

Both leagues operate similar playoff systems in the way that the top 3 teams will go on to compete in the league’s playoff, with 2^nd and 3^rd facing each other before the winner meeting the 1^st placed team in a 5-game final to determine who will represent the league in the Japan Series.

The Japan Series is a 7-game Championship played between the two playoff winners of the Central and Pacific leagues, with the first team to win four games declared the winner and Japan Series Champions. The Saitama Seibu Lions claimed the 2008 Japan Series title with a 4-3 win over the Yomuri Giants for their first Japan Series title since 2004 and became the 5^th Pacific League team to win the title in the past 6 years.

The winners of the Japan Series then go on to represent Japan in the Asia Series which is played between the champions of Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan. The Saitama Seibu Lions claimed a double with the Asia Series in 2008 beating Taiwan Champions Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions in the Final 1-0.
