While the 75 and 87 record that the Padres finished with last year was not that positive there were a number of bonuses that came out through the season and there are a lot of good signs pointing in the right direction overall. Jake Peavy bounced back last year from injury and showed that he can still compete in the way that he did before the injury and there were a few young players that showed they have more than enough to compete at the big league level.

A lot of improvements will have to be made in 2010 if the Padres want to improve and compete for a playoff spot, but there are a number of young players that should be able to help make a difference. A lot of the pressure will fall onto the shoulders of Adrian Gonzalez to provide most of the offensive support and pick up a few wins for the team on the whole. There are rumors in terms of a possible Gonzalez trade so keep an eye out for that should the team not be able to compete come the trade deadline.
