There are only five days left in the all star voting process for the game that will be played on July 14th in St. Louis. The deadline for voting is Thursday July 2nd at 11:59pm. Fans are sure to continue rushing online and to the ballparks to try and stuff the ballot boxes with their favorite players, especially the fans in St. Louis. The Cardinals would love nothing more than to have an NL starting roster jam packed with hometown players.
There are quite a few tight races heading into the final days of voting that are sure to head up as more fans realize how close it is. Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis are involved in one of the tightest races in All Star history. There is no way to predict which one will make the starting roster, but it surely looks like the two will only be separated by a very small margin. Devastating for one player to lose by so few votes, and thrilling for the other. There is no doubt that rival fans from New York and Boston are stuffing the boxes to try to beat out the opposing team's player.
At second base the race is almost as tight between another Boston player, Dustin Pedroia, and Texas Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler. This is also not to ignore the breakout seasons being had by the Yankees' Robinson Cano and the Toronto Blue Jays' Aaron Hill. Any one of the four would be deserving of a spot but it is likely to go to Kinsler who is leading the rest of the player in most categories.
Jimmy Rollins and Hanley Ramirez are jammed together almost as tight as sardines in a can, with Ramirez pulling ahead as of late. The outfield is also bringing about quite a lot of competition in both the AL and the NL. In the AL Jason Bay, Ichiro Suzuki and Josh Hamilton lead the way but Torii Hunter and Carl Crawford are right on their tails. In the NL a quick look at voting shows that RaulIbanez, Ryan Braun and Carlos Beltran appear to be the favorites to make the team, but an influx of voting in the next couple of days could change everything. Alfonso Soriano and Shane Victorino are the two outfielders who could change the look of the roster heading into this last week of voting.
There is always something special about the MLB All Star game, no matter who is involved or where it is played. With a lot of professional all stars disappointing fans, the MLB has always done its best to present an entertaining game and the Home Run Derby is one of most anticipated All Star events compared with all the other professional sports leagues. Last year we saw an incredible performance from Josh Hamilton and this year there will surely be any dazzling moment that will have MLB fans from across the world taking for months to come.
