Sunday 25th March 17:35 - 20:35 GMT
On Sunday, March 25th, the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers will be playing at 1:05PM at the George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa Florida. Although there are several games being played that day, including a special MLB game at 6:10AM between Oakland and Yomiuri, this is one of three games that will feature a division leader from last year's standings. Two other Spring Training match-ups that are also being featured are Milwaukee and Kansas City at 4:05PM and the Arizona Diamondbacks against San Diego at 4:05PM as well.

The Detroit Tigers ended up in the top spot in the American League Central last year. They had 95 wins and 67 losses and a seven and three record for their last ten games. They also won the last four that they played. That record is almost as impressive as the Yankees up until the end of the season. The Yanks had 97 wins and 65 losses and lost their last four games in a row. A lot of hype and excitement is surrounding the upcoming major league baseball season, and a lot of that hype seems to be wrapped up in one series: The Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees live games. Both of these teams capture a lot of attention every year and both are looking to dominate the American League in 2011.

The New York Yankees in particular are expected to be a force to say the least, although there are concerns about their pitching staff seeing as the lost out on top free agents such as Cliff Lee. Behind CC Sabathia there is not a whole lot to be excited about, but Kevin Cashman feels that their offense is potent and powerful enough to lead the way. That remains to be seen of course, but the matchup against the powerhouse pitchers in Detroit will go a long way into telling how the season will go.
For Detroit their team has definitely seen a lot of ups and downs over the years, and everyone is hoping that this year can be another up. A lot of media attention surrounding the Tigers in the offseason thanks to what some deemed as a real lack of moves, and of course thanks to the DUI controversy and weight gain of star Miguel Cabrera. The team will need to shift the attention away from those topics and rely on studs like Justin Verlander, Cabrera, Brandon Inge, and more to get through the season on a positive note.

Make sure you don’t miss a minute of this live major league baseball game, and find out which of these two teams can start off the season on the right foot. After an exciting opening game of the series the Yankees were looking to make another impact in their series against the Detroit Tigers. They did just that thanks to C.C Sabathia`s dominant performance it what turned out to be a pitcher`s duel. Sabathia pitched 7 solid innings and only allowed five hits and didn’t allow a single run. They will now be looking to sweep the Tigers aside in the final game of the series on Sunday July 19th.

On the offensive side of the ball Alex Rodriguez hit a home run and Melky Cabrera came through with the game winning RBI. After Sabathia left the game Alfredo Aceves came in and allowed one run in the eighth inning while Mariano Rivera picked up the save in the 9th for his 25th save. Justin Verlander of the Tigers was handed the loss even though he came through in the clutch and pitched an excellent game. He only allowed two runs in 7 innings and was able to strike out 6. Marcus Thames was able to hit a home run in the 8th inning to give the Tigers some life but that was all they could get going. The Yankees look poised to make a run towards the top of the AL East and no one seems to be able to stop them.

On Sunday the Yankees will send young Joba Chamberlain to the mound to try and extend their win streak to three games. The Tigers will send out all-star Edwin Jackson to try and shut down the Yankees in what will no doubt be an exciting MLB game. The second half of the 2009 MLB season started out with a bang this year for the New York Yankees as they came out hard and managed to beat the Detroit Tigers by a score of 5-3. Mark Teixeira sealed the victory with a three run home run in the 7th inning to ensure the Yankees got off to a good start after the All Star break. Teixeira ended up with 3 hits, Hideki Matsui went 2 for 4 and Johnny Damon managed to score three times in the game. As for pitching AJ Burnett lasted 6 innings and allowed just three runs but Phil Hughes got the win after striking out all 6 batters he faced in the 7th and 8th innings.

Curtis Granderson managed to hit a home run for the Tigers and Placido Polanco and Miguel Cabrera came up with the other offence in the game for the Tigers, but it wasn’t enough. Joel Zumaya was credited with the loss after allowing the home run to Teixeira and leading the team`s lead slip away. Mariano Rivera then finished the game off for the Yankees with his 24th save of the year despite an hour long rain delay in the later innings of the game. The Tigers really need to bounce back and gather a few victories if they want to make in impact in the American League this year.

On the other hand the Yankees need to continue their winning ways on Saturday, July 18th if they want to catch their rivals the Boston Red Sox. The rest of the series should prove to be more than exciting and you can watch it all live and without delay right here on WatchLiveBaseball.com
