New York Yankees v Florida Marlins Live

AJ Burnett has found a way to get a victory against every team in the MLB, except for the Florida Marlins. Even though he was dominant on Saturday, June 20th, that record will not change. The Yankees were unable to get anything going but thankfully for them the Washington Nationals have been taking care of the Toronto Blue Jays at the same time. Josh Johnson allowed just one run over 7 innings and did not even allow one hit until AJ Burnett blooped a single in the 7th. Dan Uggla provided the spark on the offensive side of the ball as the Marlins squeaked away with an impressive 2-1 victory. The loss was devastating for the Yankees as they continue to fall further back in the AL East and have been really eaten up by National League teams over the past few weeks.

In the rubber match of the series the Yankees will once again turn to C.C Sabathia to try and come away with a series victory. The Marlins will counter with Chris Volstad. Sabathia has been on a bit of a tear recently and has really been proving his worth as a top of the line starter. In his last start he went 7 2/3 innings and has put together an impressive string of quality starts. On the other hand Volstad has been touched up pretty hard over his past two starts. In fact those starts were both the worst of his MLB career so far. He allowed 8 runs in a game against Boston last week and has really been struggling with the command of his fastball, curveball and changeup. He will need to be on his game in order to keep the Yankees in check the way that Josh Johnson, but the Marlins would love a series victory against the hated Yankees to say the least. The Florida Marlins were not expected to come out their Interleague match ups with teams from the AL East alive. However the young team has proven everyone wrong by sweeping the Toronto Blue Jays on the road and getting out of their series with the Boston Red Sox with a win. Now it doesn’t get any easier for the Marlins but they will get another chance to prove their mettle against the dominant New York Yankees.

The New York Yankees have been the opposite of the Marlins this week and are in danger of falling into third place in the AL East. The Yanks are 4-6 in their last ten games and only sit one spot ahead of the Blue Jays in the division. They will need to prove that they are the cream of the crop and muscle the Marlins out of the way. This is an exciting match up as one team tries to prove they are contenders and the other tries to prove that they can compete with any team, no matter what the standings say. The Yankees will send out veteran lefty Andy Pettitte to face the Marlins and Florida will counter with promising, towering young pitcher Sean West. West has not been dominant in his last few starts but has shown he is capable of pitching in the big leagues and has won his last two decisions on the year.
