The Washington Nationals found a way to turn things around a bit with a big win over the San Francisco Giants. After being the losing the team in Phillies’ starter Jamie Moyer’s 250th win, the Nationals are just looking for any positive that they can. The one positive has been the play of Ryan Zimmerman who has lead the team in most offensive categories and even put together a 30 game hit streak early on in the season. On Tuesday June 2nd Zimmerman and the Nationals were able to just get past the surging giants by a final score of 10-6, thanks to a 6 run 8th inning. They look to build on the victory as they play the Giants one more time on Wednesday June 3rd, but a storied, opposing pitcher stands in their way.

So far the Washington Nationals V the San Francisco Giants series has been exciting and had a number of milestones. In the second game of the series Randy Johnson managed to pull away with 298th career victory. He has taken one step closer to the illustrious 300 win mark and could get there by early next week if all goes well. Johnson has not been at his best this season but has been able to put together a few quality starts and got some extra run support from the Giants on Monday. Johnson allowed for runs in his start and out duelled Daniel Cabrera. The match up was actually the tallest pitching match up in history as Johnson, 6 foot ten, took on Cabrera who is 6 foot 9.

In another exciting moment Nationals player Ryan Zimmerman went 4 for 5 and was able to extend his hitting streak to 29 games. He now has the longest streak in the team’s short history and is half way to a very, impressive record set by Joe Dimaggio. While he is nowhere near there, it is still an exciting team for a team in the Nationals that does not usually provide exciting news. Tuesday May 12th is your chance to see Ryan Zimmerman try to extend his hitting steak to the 30 game plateau as the two teams face off in the rubber match of the series.
